Around the fifth century A.D.， tribes of people known as the Angels， Saxons， and Jutes traveled west from Germany and Denmark across the North Sea. French became the language of the wealthy and powerful， and English was spoken mostly by poorer people. In the late fourteenth century， English became the first language again. By this time， many words used in English came from French or Latin， and a lot of the early words no longer existed. 1066年，諾曼人征服英國(guó)。法語(yǔ)成為富人的語(yǔ)言和強(qiáng)有力的象征，但窮人主要講英語(yǔ)。在14世紀(jì)末，英語(yǔ)再次成為第一語(yǔ)言。到這時(shí)，英國(guó)人使用的很多詞匯來(lái)自法語(yǔ)或者拉丁語(yǔ)，并且許多早期的詞匯已經(jīng)不復(fù)存在。 8世紀(jì)末，持續(xù)了近3年，當(dāng)時(shí)所帶來(lái)的斯堪的那維亞語(yǔ)對(duì)英語(yǔ)的發(fā)展有很大影響。公元1066年，法國(guó)的諾曼蒂公爵侵人英國(guó)，在諾曼蒂王朝統(tǒng)治期間，英國(guó)實(shí)際上存在著三種語(yǔ)言:法語(yǔ)，拉丁語(yǔ)，英語(yǔ)，但是英語(yǔ)只是下層社會(huì)勞動(dòng)者用的世俗語(yǔ)言。法語(yǔ)在英國(guó)的特殊地位一直延續(xù)到14世紀(jì)。 1382年用英語(yǔ)書(shū)寫(xiě)的圣經(jīng)出現(xiàn)，才結(jié)束了拉丁語(yǔ)的宗教語(yǔ)言地位。這時(shí)英語(yǔ)才成為英國(guó)的全民語(yǔ)言。因此英語(yǔ)中保留著大量的法語(yǔ)詞匯（如age，air，brush，cry，bourgeoisie）和拉丁語(yǔ)詞匯（angel，candle，moke，pope）。 Modern English AD1500- Modern English in 1700 as the sector generally was divided into early modern English and late Modern English. In 1700 English language standardization and the standardization process has been completed， the future of English pronunciation and grammar don’t take great changes， only vocabulary is expanded continuously. 現(xiàn)代英語(yǔ)一般以1700年為界，分為早期現(xiàn)代英語(yǔ)與后期現(xiàn)代英語(yǔ)。1700年英語(yǔ)規(guī)范化和標(biāo)準(zhǔn)化過(guò)程已經(jīng)完成，這以后英語(yǔ)的語(yǔ)音和語(yǔ)法都無(wú)大的變化，只有詞匯不斷地?cái)U(kuò)大和豐富。 Modern English In the Renaissance（文藝復(fù)興）， people showed strong interest in ancient Greece and ancient Roman culture .English has absorbed a large number of ancient society culture. vocabulary has greatly increased. eg: geometry， astronomy ，coming from the Greek; French :comrade， alloy， surpass; Spanish: banana， mosquito; Italian: violin， piazza. conclusion Nowadays， English has gradually developed into a worldwide language .It has become the most important tool to communicate in political， technological and cultural areas.
