Introduce Chinise traditions to foreign freinds 外院 潘竑羽 914114740110 目錄(catalogue) 書法(Calligraphy) 龍(Chinese dragon) 長城(the Great Wall) 孔子(Confucius) and 論語(The Analects of Confucius) 太極(Tai Chi):太極拳(hexagram boxing) A.書法(Calligraphy) Calligraphy is understood in China as the art of writing a good hand with the brush or the study of the rules and techniques of this art. As such it is peculiar to China and the few countries influenced by ancient Chinese culture.  書法(Calligraphy) In the history of Chinese art, calligraphy has always been held in equal importance to painting. Great attention is also paid today to its development by holding exhibitions of ancient and contemporary works and by organizing competitions among youngsters and people from various walks of life. Sharing of experience in this field often makes a feature in Sino-Japanese cultural exchange. 書法(Calligraphy) Chinese calligraphy, like the script itself, began with the hieroglyphs and, over the long ages of evolution, has developed various styles and schools, constituting an important part of the heritage of national culture. B.龍(Chinese dragon) The Chinese dragon or Oriental dragon is a mythical creature in East Asian culture with a Chinese origin. It is visualized these days as a long, scaled, snake-like creature with four legs and five claws on each (though it did not always have five claws). In contrast to the European dragon which stands on four legs and which is usually portrayed as evil, the Chinese dragon has long been a potent symbol of auspicious power in Chinese folklore and art. 龍(Chinese dragon) The Chinese dragon is traditionally also the embodiment of the concept of yang (male) and associated with the weather as the bringer of rain and water in an agriculturally water-driven nation. Its female counterpart is the Fenghuang (usually translated as a phoenix). C.長城(the Great Wall) The Great Wall of China is called the "Ten thousand Ii Great Wall" in Chinese. In fact, it' s more than 6 000 kilometres long. It winds its way from west to east, across deserts, over mountains, through valleys till at last it reaches the sea. It is one of the wonders of the world. 長城(the Great Wall) The Great Wall has a history of over twenty centuries. The first part of it was built during the Spring and Autumn Period. During the Warring States Period, more walls were put up to defend the borders of the different kingdoms. It was during the Qin Dynasty that the kingdom of Qin united the dif ferent parts into one empire. To keep the enemy out of his empire, Emperor Qin Shi Huang had all the walls joined up. Thus, the Great Wall came into being. 長城(the Great Wall) The Great Wall is wide enough at the top for five horses or ten men to walk side by side. Along the wall are watchtowers, where soldiers used to keep watch. Fires were lit on the the towers as a warning when the enemy came.It was very difficult to build such a wall in the ancient days without any modern machines. All the work was done by hand. Thousands of men died and were buried under the wall they built. The Great Wall was made not only of stone and earth, but of the flesh and blood of millions of men. D.孔子(Confucius) Confucius (551 B.C—479 B.C.) is one of the most famous Chinese people. As the founder of Confucianism1, his thought has exerted a deep influence on China and its people.  But Confucius was not his real name. It was a courtesy title, a Latinized form of “Kong Fuzi”, meaning “Master Kong”. His family name was Kong and his given name, Qiu. And he styled himself Zhongni. He was born at Zouyi, the State of Lu2.  孔子(Confucius) As one of the greatest thinkers and educators in the history of China, Confucius’ legacy lies in the following three aspects: Firstly, he compiled and preserved the literary works, The Six Classics, including Shi3, Shu4, Li5, Yue6, Yi 7 and Chun Qiu8 , which are regarded as the classics of Confucianism. The accomplishment makes a large impact on the succession and development of the traditional Chinese culture.  論語(The Analects of Confucius) In the Analects, Confucius presents himself as a “transmitter who invented nothing”.He put the greatest emphasis on the importance of study, and it is the Chinese character for study (or learning) that opens the text. In this respect,he is seen by Chinese people as the Greatest Master.Far from trying to build a systematic theory of life and society or establish a formalism of rites, he wanted his disciples to think deeply for themselves and relentlessly study the outside world, mostly through the old scriptures and by relating the moral problems of the present to past political events (like the Annals) or past expressions of feelings by common people and reflective members of the elite (preserved in the poems of the Book of Odes). E.太極(Tai Chi) "tai"is taixu which means the highest, the greatest and the remotest,"Xu"means emptiness, taichi (in Chinese) means the great void, the universe, absolutely empty, lack of substance, but is full of energy, taichi is the highest and final state which all Kungfu practitioners long for. 太極拳(hexagram boxing) Taichi is one of the Chinese traditional martial arts.Long long ago, it was designed as a unique and profound selfdefense technique. As an ancient Kongfu, Taiji includes quan, sword, broadsword, spear, push-hand,et cetera. Especially pushhand is well known for its tactic and technique, the powerful and aggressive opponent being defeated by a small clever attack or an abrupt explosive power.vBc紅軟基地
