Halloween starts on the evening of October 31st.
Words & stories
1.萬(wàn)圣節(jié)的慶;顒(dòng)來(lái)源于All Hallows Day 或 All Saints Day,每年的11月1日。
2.Halloween 這個(gè)字來(lái)自于All Hallows Eve,也就是All Hallows Day的前一天。
3.Dressing up in costumes
在蘇格蘭,小孩要糖果時(shí)會(huì)說(shuō):“The sky is blue, the grass is green, may we have our Halloween.”(天是藍(lán)色,草是綠色,齊來(lái)慶祝萬(wàn)聖節(jié)前夜)然後以唱歌跳舞等方式來(lái)博得糖果

History
The celebration has some elements of a festival of the dead.
The ancient Celts believed that the border between this world and the Otherworld became thin on Samhain, allowing spirits (both harmless and harmful) to pass through. It is believed that the need to scare off harmful spirits led to the wearing of costumes and masks. Their purpose was to disguise(扮演) oneself as a harmful spirit and thus avoid harm.
Origin of name
The term Halloween, originally spelled Hallowe’en, is shortened from All Hallows' Even – e'en is a shortening of even, which is a shortening of evening.
This is ultimately derived from Old English. It is now known as "Eve of" All Saints' Day, which is November 1st.
